PONK’s and DINK’s by Megan Allen

by Heidi on August 3, 2009

I am a PONK and a DINK…and so you ask, what on earth does that mean?  Well PONK stands for “Pet Owner No Kid” and DINK stands for “Double Income No Kid”.  Are you laughing at the acronyms?  Well I must admit it is pretty funny to think of myself in terms of a demographic bucket used by large research companies.

So yes, I am my own target demographic here at Camp Bow Wow, which makes my job a lot more fun and interesting since I am usually developing programs that I would use myself.  When we decided to add Pet Insurance, I was all for creating the program for my own use; donation pop up’s, sure why wouldn’t I give a dollar to our foundation each time I go to camp?  This isn’t to say that there aren’t other demographics that make up our CBW and Home Buddies clientele, I am just saying that my dog’s are literally like furry little children to my husband and I so I know that when it comes to all things pet related, I am a total sucker.

Both my dog’s have more than one leash and collar, my Boston Terrier has so many outfits that you wouldn’t think he was a dog, he goes to a dermatologist and his daily medicine costs more than mine.  They get liquid fish oil from Whole Foods in their dinner each night and of course they go to camp.  I can’t even imagine what I spend a year on both of my two little guys, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.  J
